Hudson Meridian has been contracted for Construction Management of this
22-story full-service hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The 75,000 sq. ft. hotel with 180 guest rooms features a reinforced concrete structure and curtain wall exterior with Centria Panels.
Construction involved a complicated underpinning program with five different underpinning conditions and extensive rock removal for the building’s two-story deep basement.
Project challenges included complicated site logistics due to a very narrow (28 ft.) site and the hotels location on 37th Street, a cross town street which could not be closed for crane, concrete or other work. As a result, a pedestrian traffic zone was established inside the building, and the first and sub-cellar floor slabs were reinforced to support the project crane.
Project Highlights:
- Complicated foundation – extensive underpinning and rock removal
- Difficult site logistics – needed to keep crane off the street
- Public spaces – includes extensive meeting and banquet facilities, restaurant, bar, fitness center, spa, rooftop bar and entrance dining forecourt
